Necessary formalities

■Air Transportation from Japan to Overseas
1. When Someone Passes Away

We come for the deceased to the place requested, therefore we transport the body to a mortuary by hearse.

2. Discussion

We discuss the departure date and time as well as the charges with the family or associate of the deceased. Please contact the local funeral home and request them to come to the airport according to the arrival time. We Teitotenrei staffs provide all the supports for the departure.

3. Confirming the flight

We manage the information about air cargo available and flight reservation.

4. Embalming

Embalming is necessary for air transportation. We perform it for antiseptic and epidemic prevention. It takes from 5 to 6 hours including the transportation from mortuary to the treatment facility. After the treatment, we place the body in a casket.

5. Preparation of Required Documents

Required documents differ depending on the country. It demands special knowledges; preparation of required documents, translation from Japanese into English, notarial acts and Apostille. Please leave that up to us

6. Procedure at the embassy or consulate

We manage the procedure at the embassy or consulate.

7. Contact with customs broker

The body is treated as cargo. We discuss the air transport formalities with a customs broker at the departure airport.

8. Billing and Payment

Once the details in the bill are confirmed, please pay by credit card before the departure.

9. Placing the casket in a special package

We place the casket in a special package for air transport purposes and prepare it for the flight

10. Departure

With required documents, we transport the deceased to the cargo terminal by hearse on the day of the flight two hours before departure. Therefore through the inspection, the flight departures.

■Air Transportation from Overseas to Japan
1. When Someone Passes Away

Please call 0120-191-002.

2. Discussion by Phone Call

We discuss the arrival date and time at Japan as well as the charges with the family or associate of the deceased.
After the discussion by phone call, please contact the local funeral home.

3. Procedure and Arrangement

The local funeral home manages the procedure and the arrangement of air transportation of the deceased to Japan

4. Billing and Payment

The local funeral home issue the invoice before the departure.

The family or associate meets us the Teitotenrei staffs at the airport in Tokyo before the arrival of the deceased. Later we transport the body to a mortuary by hearse.

6. Disucussion

We discuss the return date and time as well as the charges with the family or associate.We place the deceased to one required casket, it is for the regulation of cremation in Japan.

7. Billing and Payment

Once the details in the bill are confirmed, please pay by credit card or cash.

■Air Transportation within Japan

Please call 0120-191-002. We come for the deceased to the place requested, therefore we transport the body to a mortuary by hearse.

2. Discussion

We discuss the departure date and time as well as the charges with the family or associate of the deceased. Please contact the local funeral home and request them to come to the airport according to the arrival time.

We place the body in a casket, hence we place the casket for air transportation.

5. Billing and Payment

Once the details in the bill are confirmed, we issue the invoice. Please pay by credit card.

6. Departure

We perform the formalities on the day of the flight, and place the deceased in the custody of the airline.
Before the departure, we inform the local funeral home of the flight information and the scheduled arrival time, and call for the local staff to come for the deceased to the airport of destinatinon.

7. Arrival at the Destination

The local funeral home takes over the duty at the destination.

The following applies to airfare.

  • ①Airfare and fuel surcharge are subject to change depending on the season.
  • ②Depending on the destination, only certain airlines can be used, and the rate terms for receiving remains differ depending on the airline that is used. The fuel surcharge may also differ.
  • ③Depending on the destination, there might not be any airlines that can receive the remains, in which case we would not be able to transport them.
  • ④Regulations for receiving remains, and the cities that airlines serve are subject to change depending on the airline.

For the reasons stated above, we will check into the matter of transporting remains on a case by case basis based on the particular situation.
